Q5-Speedy Sums

A salesman drives from Amsterdam to The Hague. The first half of the distance of his journey, he drives at a constant speed of 80 km/h. The second half of the distance of his journey, he drives at a constant speed of 120 km/h.

The Question: What is the salesman's average speed for the complete journey?

A Hint : The solution is not 100 km/h!

Q3- Make a Hundred

With the digits 1 up to 9 you must make 100, using the following rules:

  •      Each digit must be used exactly once.
  •      The only allowed operation is addition.
  •      Two single digits may be combined to form a number (so, for example, 2 and 4 may be combined to 24 or 42).
  •      Two single digits may be combined to form a fraction (so, for example, 2 and 4 may be combined to 2/4 or 4/2).

  •      Each digit must be used exactly once.
  •      The allowed operations are: addition, substraction, multiplication and division.
  •      Digits may not be concatenated (so, for example, it is not allowed to use 1 and 4 as 14).
  •      Brackets are allowed.
